We had the best time celebrating my twin boys turning THREE in April! I went round and round on a theme before landing on this one. Everything just felt so generic, and I had a whole beach thing going until I really channeled what themes truly felt like THEM, truly them?!
This book series was them. My boys love the whole series by Laura Numeroff, so I figured, let’s go with it, and do If You Give a Mouse a Cookie for their party! I wanted it to feel happy, bright, and FUN. I think it turned out really cute, and I have all the details and links below for you!
And if you’re wondering, yes, we ALL wore our overalls to be just like Mouse!
As always, I had my friend Megan from Hip Hooray Creative Events help with balloons. She is always up for anything I suggest! I wanted this to feel a little different as we’ve had multiple parties in a row at our house with the balloons centered on our fireplace (I love at-home birthday parties!). She suggested using this stand, and it turned out to be the cutest backdrop! We were careful not to make the color palette too primary, so we kept the yellow pastel against the brighter hues. The green popped in there was a last minute detail…I originally wanted silver, but the green just went with the book cover too well. Can you believe I passed on a metallic? Ha!
I really loved how the cakes turned out. We used a local bakery that we’ve used before, so we knew they would be extra delicious. I wanted the cakes to feel very “traditional Happy Birthday” but with chocolate chip cookies of course! I reused these 6″ cake stands from Target from years ago and layered this runner and this confetti on top. I purchased these cake toppers instead of making my own, and they were a hit!
I snapped this photo below before all the food was out, but you can still see how bright, happy, and whimsical it all turned out. It is a sweet detail that my boys were born during tulip season here, because these red tulips were just the thing for this table. They may just need to have tulips every year…I cannot have a party without fresh flowers, and if you follow along on IG, you know we love some flower-pickin’ in our hosuehold! My favorite things on the food table were the number 3 food tray that I found at Hobby Lobby for $5 (score!) that I filled with store bought cookies, and the most beautiful custom cookies in all the land from C&C Cookies. Aren’t these amazing?
This storybook banner was probably my favorite thing from the whole party. Yep, I sliced up a book… Two of them actually (gasp!!). I purchased two copies of the book, used books of course, and tore the pages out using a box cutter. I then cut the banner using my Cricut and added some ric rac ribbon, ta-dah!
I had two to hang: one with the original If You Give a Mouse a Cookie book pages layered on green cardstock, and the second one I used If you Give a Cat a Cupcake book pages layered on teal cardstock.
A really sweet part of the party was having two copies of the book (one for each boy!) for guests to write in. These became a super easy keepsake that was really fun to read through after the party!
Instead of party favors, I added names to party bags for all the kids. These served as their “home base” to place all of their goodies in that they collected from the party (decorated cookies, bookmarks they made, reading glasses, and prizes from the punch piñata-details of that are below!).
We had a few activities set up outside for our party guests. One was a bounce house playland (basically an obstacle course bounce house which was so perfect for all the kids ages 2-7). We also had a cookie race. Think: oreos + forks + who can get to the cone without dropping their cookie?! (This was hysterical to watch…), and my favorite: a Punch Pinata. My daughter used this for two of her parties in the past (its lived a good life so far!), and it was the boys’ turn this year before I finally tossed the box. The kids took turns “punching” a cookie to claim a prize. You can read how easy it to make here!
The Lord provided a beautiful day of weather and so much fun with friends and family to celebrate my boys! The icing on top was having this bounce house at our house for an extra day before the scheduled pick-up. We bounced all weekend-such great family memories were made!
