friday five august reads

3 Sep

August was a month of a lot of reading… the twins have had a very consistent bedtime which prompted my almost four year old to have a consistent bedtime, which prompted me to have some down time before I went to bed. I tried to read most nights before I went to bed…and sometimes that looked like 10 pages, sometimes 50, and sometimes that looked like watching a sitcom rerun with my husband instead, because I needed something mindless. I was #tappedout from the day. Shocker.

Each of these books definitely filled a piece of my heart for the current season I’m in (and the same season as many of you). All are linked below for you, and I encourage you to check out some of these as we head into a new month. I hope you can find something for yourself- Happy Reading!

  1. Any time, Any place, Any Prayer I preordered this awhile ago, and it just arrived! It shares the Gospel, but makes it relevant to kids, teaching them they can pray anytime, any place, with any prayer. I’m going to add it to my post about Diving into the Word. You can read that here.
  2. Boundaries Ok so after one person GAVE me the book years ago (and I stuffed it in a closet…) and then another person brought it up in conversation this summer, yep, I pulled it back out to read it. Game changer. This is definitely a book for anyone and everyone who wants to grow personally.
  3. How are you feeling, Momma? Here’s another one to add to my Diving into the Word post (linked here). This is a different kind of devotional that is not structured by daily scripture/devotions to read. Instead, it is organized by what you may be going through in motherhood…including those feelings of guilt, fear, insecurity, comparison, etc.
  4. Raising Kingdom Kids Our Community group at church is currently reading this together. We have only gotten through a little bit of it, and it has changed my entire outlook on parenting and reconfirmed feelings and motivations I already had about our current culture.
  5. Preschool here I come! Ok, ready for something for your Littles? My sister sent this to my girl last week, and it has helped pump us up for preschool! This book shares all the exciting things my girl can expect in preschool, and well, yes, it pumped me up too!

❤️ We included a candy cane hunt in our Happy Birthday, Jesus party this past weekend, but it would be so easy to use as a play date activity or just something to do with your own kids one afternoon! ➡️ Wouldn’t it be magical if they were hunting for candy canes in the snow? 🤩 ❄️ …maybe January… but also… we’re in central NC so… maybe not 😜🤣
