Our second week of Camp Sloop was another fun morning together with friends, and I’m excited to share with you the details. If you missed how Camp Sloop came to be and how I structured it, you can read all about it here.
For week 2, we were still living off of vacation vibes from being at the week before so a beach theme seemed just about perfect! I broke out this big bucket of shells I’ve had in my garage for years… I’ve used some here and there over the years, but this camp day was a prime opportunity!
When my daughter was three, we had a lot of fun painting seashells, and I knew her friends would too-especially if we added some googly eyes and gems!
Before everyone arrived, I set up our table with paper plates to catch the mess, individual paints that I found at Dollar Tree (in THE perfect shades!), wipes, glue, gems, eyes, and paper towels. Side note: I used paper plates also, because I thought they would be an easy way for moms to take their project home with them.
This activity was pretty self-explanatory, and I loved watching how each child approached this task differently. Some went all out: lots of paint, lots of gems, lots of everything! Another child was precise with her designs of stripes and swirls. And then a few were right in the middle! When they were finished adding their paint, they added their gems and eyes. The wet paint isn’t strong enough to hold these goodies alone, so clear tacky glue was the MVP here.
For our littlest campers, I had this sensory bin set up for them. I got a bag of play sand for $7 at Lowe’s and filled an under bed storage container with it. This was the easiest DIY sand box ever! The storage box has a lid which helps keep bugs and water out. Yep, my boys have enjoyed this sand box all week!
For our sweet treat, my daughter helped me make these fun ocean popsicles with hidden sharks inside! These were so easy to make and they went along perfectly with our beach theme. I used these silicone popsicle molds, lemonade, and just one drop of blue food coloring to make the lemonade an ocean color. Any more coloring, and you wouldn’t be able to see the sharks.
My friend Laura brought the Mommy snack this week: cut up fruit and homemade Cheeze-its. Let me say that again, homemade Cheeze-its! They were so delicious (we were amazed how good they were!). She shared the recipe with me, so I’m sharing it with you too, because everyone needs these in their lives. Click here!
We had really bad storms in the area the day before camp, so our yard was really wet…a little too wet to get the water toys going this week, so I improvised and blew up a bunch of beach balls and got the bounce house going! There were zero complaints, let me tell you! We have gotten so much use out of this bounce house. It has become the perfect plan B too when plans change and you have Littles at your house. You can read how we used it at my twins’ birthday party this year when the weather failed us here.
It was another sweet week to be with friends, play, and let loose! My daughter has really loved welcoming everyone to our home, and we pray these camp days are a blessing to these families!
